Edit timeline on a monitor in the Northgleam cutting room

Nobody frames a checklist. Nobody applauds the parking permit. But after 80+ productions, I can tell you exactly which mornings go sideways — they're the ones where somebody said "we'll figure it out on set." Here is our producer's list, annotated.

The night before

Batteries on charge, media formatted and counted, call sheet sent before 8pm with maps attached — not addresses, maps. The truck is packed in reverse order of need: first shot's gear loads last. Somebody photographs the packed truck. That photo has ended arguments.

Calm sets aren't lucky. They're listed.

The morning of

Producer arrives forty-five minutes before call. Coffee, toilets, parking cones — the holy trinity. Sound rolls a room tone before the room fills. The director gets ten silent minutes with the location while the crew builds around them.

The wrap that protects the edit

Media backed to two drives before anyone leaves, verified by checksum, one drive travelling separately. Slates logged while memories are fresh. Tomorrow's call sheet adjusted and sent before dinner. The film is already half-saved before post begins.

Print this, laminate it, argue about it — then shoot the calmest day of your career.
