Project — Documentary

Golden Reel Co.

A 52-minute portrait of the last family-run cinema in the 20th arrondissement — and our Best Documentary Feature at the Paris Film Festival 2025.

Overview

The brief: save the room by filming it.

The Rexy's owners faced redevelopment and needed the neighbourhood to see what would be lost. We embedded for four months — screenings, repairs, arguments, reconciliations — with a two-person crew the regulars stopped noticing.

The result premiered to a sold-out room three streets from where it was shot, then toured festivals through the autumn.

Approach

Four months, two people, no lights.

Available light only, sound recorded wild. The family reviewed rough cuts monthly and held veto over two scenes — trust bought us access no big crew could.

Outcome

A prize and a reprieve.

Best Documentary Feature at the Paris Film Festival 2025, a broadcast sale, and — the part we treasure — a packed petition that paused the redevelopment. The cinema still runs.
